Introducing MOCSI

The Maine-based data center initiative has a new name: MOCSI, the Maine Open Compute Services Initiative.

MOCSI is community-governed open compute in Maine—local ownership of the physical asset, an explicit public-services carveout, and open, auditable AI models. It is the infrastructure behind every service on publicai.us: chat, permitting help, library kiosks, and the community agents we are building with Maine organizations.

We renamed the initiative to make the connection clearer: MOCSI is not a distant hyperscaler warehouse. It is Maine infrastructure built to serve Mainers, with a defined governance structure and a 12–18 month evaluate/scale/sunset pilot period.

What this means for you:

• If you want to use AI services, start with our services page—you do not need to understand the data center to get value today.
• If you want to support community-owned compute, learn more on our MOCSI page and reach out about funding or partnership.

Maine can lead on a replicable model: concrete public services running on infrastructure communities actually own.
